Welcome Class of 2013

Move In 2009 was an outstanding success. Through the hard work of all of our employees within the Division of Public Safety, working with our University partners at Business Services and Facilities and Real Estate Services, we made the first official day at Penn for the class of 2013 a memorable one for them and their parents. I would like to give a special thanks to members of the Penn Police Department, Penn Comm dispatchers, Security and Technical Services Department, and our Safety Partners Allied Barton Security and ADT for EVERYTHING each of them did to make this move-in work seamlessly.

For freshman, Move-In is a day where memories are made. When I speak to alums about their move-in day, they will tell me they still remember every detail of their move-in experience twenty-five years ago. Who they met (many times they met their future life partner or best friend), what dorm they were assigned, what the weather was, etc. It is a true privilege to assist our students and their parents in making lasting, positive memories. Once moved in, the class of 2013 starts their journey through NSO, New Student Orientation.

Today at NSO the Division of Public Safety welcomed our Class of 2013….all 2,477 members…. to Penn during two ninety (90) minute safety presentations at Irvine Auditorium . We were assisted by two dedicated students, the Chairman of the Undergraduate Assemble Alec Webley and the Chief of the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) Josh Glick in giving students an overview of how to remain safe in an urban environment, be it Philadelphia or any large urban environment in the world. The class of 2013 is a spirited group and we look forward to supporting them throughout their four years at Penn.



So, you might ask, is the Division of Public Safety in the business of keeping everyone safe and secure or facilitating positive memories? The answer is…..BOTH!
