Great Strides in Public Safety This Week!

This was a great week for public safety initiatives for Penn and the University City District.

Yesterday, we publically launched the second phase of our UPennAlert Emergency Notification System.- the Penn Siren Outdoor System (Penn SOS). The press conference was very successful. Local news outlets KYW News Radio-1060, Channels 6 (WPVI) and 3 (KYW) covered the event and gave us an opportunity to present an overview of our PennReady emergency preparedness program and the role of the UPennAlert system, which now includes the Penn SOS system, within the PennReady plan.

The University City District also received some wonderful media coverage on the installation of 71 new pedestrian lights along Baltimore Avenue from 45th Street to 50th Street. This project exemplifies the great partnerships and shared goals that exist within University City. I am particularly proud of our partnership with the UCD and the amazing strides we have jointly accomplished since the lighting initiatives began in 2005.
