Newly Designed Public Safety Website Has Been Launched!

Our our newly designed website has officially launched! If you have been to www.publicsafety.upenn.edu before, you will now see some major changes in how we are attempting to disseminate and share important safety information with our community. I have highlighted the changes below to help orient you with the slightly new layout and design.

DPS Home Page Changes:
The entire main content area has been reorganized to ease clutter and organize information more succinctly. New features include:

Image Rotator: Toward the top left we now have scrolling images highlighting the many services we offer at DPS along with any important events we want to promote. Visitors have the ability to stop, play fast forward and rewind through content.

Quick Links: We cleaned up this area to include several important links we think every visitor to our website should see.

Vice President’s Blog: Along with the launch of our newly designed site, I am excited to officially have my own blog (and twitter page!). I look forward to building my page with important safety information, interesting articles, and information on DPS events. You can keep updated on my posts by subscribing above. My most recent posts will also be posted to the DPS website homepage.

News & Events: Toward the bottom of our homepage is the Recent News & Events section which holds our most recent news on DPS events and other important information. A new news story will slide across the screen at timed intervals. You can also navigate to each story and stop the slider to allow yourself time to read.

Website Header Area
Communicating online is an important and integral way to stay in touch with your audience. That’s why we have made Public Safety social network friendly. We want our information to be easily shared, so we made some additions to all of our pages.

Social Networking: At the top of the webpage there is an area for visitors to “join”, “link” and “share.” You can “join” us on Twitter and Blogger, “link” us through social bookmarking sites like Delicious, Digg and Stumble Upon and “share” us using your favorite social media such as facebook, twitter, myspace and wordpress.

Easier Search Function: In the same area at the top of the webpage is a Google search function. You can now search directly within our site for information.

Tailored Information Specifically for You!

Safety A-Z: A set of 5 publications individually tailored for Faculty, Staff, Students, Parents and Visitors run along the right side of every webpage and highlighting important resources, facts and information specific to each group. Most include a checklist at the end to help you stay safe and have fun while on Penn’s campus.

Sign Up For Public Safety & Traffic Alerts

Easy Sign Up: We have now included an area to sign up for traffic advisories and public safety advisories. When we are notified of an upcoming project, traffic or safety issue, we will use this system to help notify our community. You will see a space to enter your email information in the left column of our webpage.

I hope you enjoy the new look! If you would like to provide feedback, please feel free to email us at feedback@publicsafety.upenn.edu:
